We respect your privacy. This page explains what data Koboko collects, how we use it, and your choices.

Who we are

Koboko is a daily word game operated by Koboko.Com. If you have questions, email us at nomad@koboko.com.

What we collect

• Anonymous Player ID (stored in your browser’s localStorage as koboko_player_id) so your scores can be associated with a unique, non-identifying ID.
• Gameplay data you generate, such as score, word count, top word and top word score for the day’s puzzle. When you submit a score to the leaderboard, we store these with your Anonymous Player ID.
• Settings you choose (e.g., sound on/off, color mode) and play-state convenience (e.g., daily play lock, streak count) in your local browser storage.
• Standard server logs (automatically recorded by our hosting/provider), which may include IP address, user agent, and timestamps for security and reliability. We do not link server logs to your gameplay profile.

We do not ask for your name, email, or precise location to play the daily game. If we later introduce optional accounts/usernames or subscriptions, we’ll update this policy.

How we use data

• Run the game (e.g., enforce one play per UTC day, calculate streaks).
• Show leaderboards for the daily puzzle.
• Improve stability and prevent abuse (e.g., rate limiting, debugging).

Where data is stored

Leaderboard data is stored using our cloud database (e.g., Google Firebase/Firestore). This may process data in the EU, UK, US, or other regions depending on service configuration. Local preferences are stored only in your browser.

Sharing

• We do not sell your personal data.
• We share data only with service providers necessary to run Koboko (e.g., hosting, database). They process data on our instructions.
• If required by law or to protect our rights and users, we may disclose information to authorities.

Cookies & local storage

We do not set tracking cookies for the daily game. We use localStorage to keep your Anonymous Player ID and settings on your device. Our providers may set essential cookies to operate their services.

Data retention

Leaderboard entries are retained so historical daily results remain visible. You can request removal of your entries (see “Your rights” below). Local settings remain in your browser until you clear them.

Your rights

If you are in the UK/EU (GDPR) or California (CPRA/CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your data. We honour reasonable requests worldwide.

To make a request: email nomad@koboko.com with your Anonymous Player ID. You can find it in your browser’s developer tools under localStorage key koboko_player_id. We will verify and action your request.

Children

Koboko is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data. No system is 100% secure.

Changes

We may update this policy to reflect features or legal requirements. We’ll post the new date at the top and, if changes are significant, provide additional notice.
